Scintillation Counter
Imagine trying to find your keys in the dark, and you rely on a flashlight to spot them when they reflect the light. Similarly, a scintillation counter detects radiation by relying on a flash of light created when radiation interacts with a special material. Just as the flashlight reveals your keys by causing them to shine, the scintillation counter recognizes radiation by the light (or scintillation) it emits, helping you 'see' the otherwise invisible.
