Imagine trying to sort through a messy drawer full of tangled cables and wires to find the one you need. In a similar way, during prophase, the cell organizes its genetic material by twisting the long strands of chromatin into neat, visible chromosomes. Just as untangling the cables makes it easier to identify and use the one you need, the process of chromatin condensing into chromosomes makes it easier for the cell to manage and distribute genetic information during cell division.
