Imagine you're at a crowded party but with plenty of empty space outside on the patio, everyone wants to spread out to be more comfortable. This situation is similar to how cells behave in a hypotonic solution, where the concentration of solutes inside the cell is higher than outside, so water flows into the cell to balance things out. Just as party-goers move to the open patio to relieve the cramped conditions inside, water moves into the cell in a hypotonic solution to equalize the concentration difference, making the cell swell.
