Ten Percent Plan

The Ten Percent Plan was Abraham Lincoln's proposal during the Reconstruction era to reintegrate Southern states into the Union after the Civil War. It required that 10% of voters in a Confederate state take an oath of allegiance to the Union for the state to be readmitted. This plan aimed to reunify the nation quickly and heal the divisions caused by the war. It responded to the need for a practical solution to bring Southern states back into the fold without harsh punishments. Today, the concept of reconciliation and rebuilding relationships is still relevant, similar to how communities may come together after disagreements, such as when a neighborhood organizes events to address past conflicts and promote unity.
